This unit is organized in 3 research groups. The “Econometrics and Finance” group is much better than the other groups: “Industrial, Labour and Spatial Economics”, the middle group, and “Environmental and Agri-food Economics and Management”, the weakest. The first two groups have publications of rank A, B and C, the third having a lower record. In the last two groups, there is yet much to gain, given that the productivity is one article per researcher within two years. There is some cross-fertilization of research between these groups.

The characteristic of the unit that was most apparent after the visit is however the quality of its leadership and of its general orientation as recently defined. There is a clear definition of the objectives to be pursued and an acute perception of the problems to be solved, together with a credible design of an appropriate strategy. The general working rules seem quite appropriate, for instance there are precise rules of entry and exit (2 publications in a period of 5 years as a necessary condition for membership) and incentives for publication have also been introduced. These rules resort to the ISI ranking of journals (A, B, C and D).
